Before my young children awaken, my morning ritual is to light a candle, incense my body and spirit, step outside to pray, sing, and dance the sun up, then return indoors to sip coffee and readfrom Silvia Nakkach’swonderful book,Free Your Voice: Awaken to Life Through Singing. As a choir director, sound healer, and performing artist, I find therein a vast well of exercises and teachings to integrate into my work.
Reading Silvia’s book is akin to having a master teacher beside me every day. I return again and again to her insights about the mystical path of the voice; her words refresh my soul and invigorate my very breath, fueling my desire to sing (and listen deeply) as a daily devotion.
